Hemjakot is a beautiful village located on the foothills of Mt. Macchapucchare, otherwise known to English speakers as Fishtail Mountain. It’s just a 75-minute drive, or a one-hour drive plus a one-hour trek, from Pokhara. Rich in cultural authenticity and beautiful views, Hemjakot is an ideal destination from which travelers can admire the majestic Himalayas and gain a deeper understanding of the local rural lifestyle. Around ten households belong to the Hemjakot Community Homestay network, belonging to the Gurung, Magar, and Dalit communities. This is an unusual community, as it is multi-ethnic. The Community Homestays are helping the traditionally underprivileged Dalit groups (the Damai and Kami) improve their livelihoods. Staying at this homestay gives visitors the chance to experience the rural lifestyles of these mountain-dwelling people. Another major attraction of staying at this homestay are the spectacular views. You don’t need to trek deeper into the Himalaya (unless you want to!) to experience some of the best, uncrowded views of the high Annapurna Himalaya, especially Macchapucchare and Annapurna. From Hemjakot village you can see the Himalaya to the north, and green cultivated hills to the south.

Hemjakot is a perfect location to witness the majestic mountain views of Annapurna Range. Flora and fauna and some herbs also can be found in Hemjakot. Recently, the most of the households of Dhital Village Development Committee (VDC) offer the home-stay service, informed Chitra Singh Gurung, a local social worker. Dhital VDC and Hemjakot village lies on the rout of recently explored Machhapuchhre Model Trek. Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara had launched a home-stay service in Hemjakot during Mt. Annapurna day of 2010. Hemjakot can be reached following an off-road start from Bhupi Serchan Highway aka Pokhara-Baglung highway.
